Cahl's Juke Joint: A rock, blues and jazz blog: Mable John Belongs in the Hall of Fame

I've met Mable John and I know her very well. She's accomplished many wonderful things in her lifetime. Yet what should be the criteria for entrance into the hall of fame?

Her brother was a pioneer, a giant in the industry even though he career was cut short. Many performers were and still are influenced by his great talent. Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and even James Brown (one of John's contemporaries) talk about how he influenced them and the music of his time.

Just having a hit record or even a few doesn't make a performer "Hall of Fame" material.

Take a Long, Hard look at the inductees. Do you still think that she belongs?

My last name is John too ... So I know Mable John ... Very nice lady but the body of work says no ... to me :)

Soul Shower

The reply about LWJ was greatly appreciated. There seems to be lots of misinformation about him. Even sites that represent themselves as 'authorities' All Music Guide at times either fail to do the proper research. Perhaps they just take information that had read elsewhere as fact. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is pretty reliable source of information. Even the Wikipedia has erroneous information about LWJ. You'd think that an encyclopedia would double check to make sure that the information that they publish is accurate!

As regards what is temperament was, I think that those who really knew and worked with him (not 'the fans') would know what he was really like.

A book to set the facts straight is long overdue!

LWJ "I'm Shakin"

By the LWJ was serving time for Manslaughter not murder! It was John's position and that of his defense attorney that he was defending himself therefore, it was simply, "self defense".

His previous reputation among some and his previous record may have hurt him in the eyes of the Judge.
The judge reportedly said: 'I'm taking you "off your feet" for a while.

LWJ: " I'm Shakin"

Nice post! I too like "I'm Shakin" and I have heard just about every song in the LWJ collection.
LWJ was my father! I am currently working on a book project with a professional writer.

If you need an specific info. please feel free to drop me a note.
If you send me an email address I'll be sure to let you know when the book comes out!

Sincerly,
